Or as Munich wants you to call it: 2-series Active Tourer.
The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! show that it looks a lot like a B-class that crashed into the headlights and kidneys section of a BMW design studio.

This car is another reason why a) enthusiasts will shake their heads, b) BMW 1M prices will go through the roof. On the plus side dentists now know what car to replace their F10 5 series with.

All I have left to say is: Long live the E39.

That's freaking adorable. (I don't think that's what they were going for, but it is.)

I think they went for "Freude am Fahren", although I feel that nobody at BMW knows what that actually means anymore.

I don't understand where all the fuss is about. BMW has been building similar vehicles for years.

In before the "BMW can't make cars for enthusiasts, they need to go where the money is, they don't have to build cars for 17 year olds driving e30's on the internet" arguments.....

It reminds me of minivan design from the mid-90s when they would just take a sedan and stretch it in weird ways.

The problem is what BMW became well known for. Light, sporty, active RWD cars that could also bring the fun into a modest family sedan (2002, E30, etc.). That's what enthusiasts valued, and at some point they became "mainstream". Now they live of their badge with very few cars to fullfil true driving pleasure.

Agreed. However, this new "2-series Active Tourer" is hardly the first offender, it's a car in a long line of vehicles (like the entire X line) that don't fall into the category you described.

Would they make an ///M or Alpina version?

Yes, that's right, but it never became as apparent and extreme as it did just now.

Enjoy your new BMW platform, fans of compact BMWs below the 3-Series. This nifty FWD platform will underpin everything < 3-Series in the near future.

Say your goodbyes to RWD.
